BUSTER MATHIS JR.

BUSTER MATHIS JR.
(Buster has been to several of our shows and was a special guest at our 2/1/00 show in Punta Gorda, Florida)

Buster Mathis Jr. was born March 24, 1970 and grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a 15 year old high school sophomore he weighed 325 lbs. and had a terrible time with life. His classmates made fun of him, his grades were horrible, and he was painfully shy. He spent his time watching television and eating.

One day he told his father, who had been a leading heavyweight of the 1960’s, that he wanted to box. His father took him to the gym and the change was astounding. Within three years Buster was down to 180 lbs. and feeling food about himself. He turned pro in 1991 and worked his way up the heavyweight ladder. He captured the USBA title by defeating former Olympian Tyrell Biggs. He fought several “high profile” opponents, including Riddick Bowe, and Mike Tyson.

After retiring from Boxing Buster moved to Miami, Florida to attend college, concentrating on Business Management. He wants to stay active in Boxing and has managed a couple of fighters and now has his mind set on promoting. We wish him luck, the fight game needs fine men like Buster Mathis Jr.
